He brings to The Triana Group a 20 years career as a strategy consultant and business faculty in Paris, California, Michigan, and New York. Worked for organizations ranging in size from $1M-to-$18B in annual revenue. He started his career as a strategy consultant and faculty in Paris, California, Michigan, and New York. Over the years, he was instrumental in the execution of market analyses and competitive studies for companies from start-ups to large corporations. He worked for research firms, including Financial Times’ sister company Eurostaf, Elm, Intelligentsia; for foundations and institutions, including European Commission programs, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the City of San Francisco, the Paris Chamber of Commerce, the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, the University of California; for corporations, including Pfizer, Apollo Group’s University of Phoenix, Microsoft, Visteon; and numerous engagements with financial and management firm Kenneth J. Dalto for Midwestern midmarket companies’ investment projects totaling several hundred million dollars.
A graduate of the University of Paris Dauphine in Entrepreneurship, he holds a Ph.D. in Strategy from ESSEC for which he received the AIMS International Strategy Association’s Annual Best Dissertation Award, and is an alumni of U.C. Berkeley’s Haas School of Business post-doctoral program. The author of strategy-related articles and chapters with publishers including John Wiley & Sons and Oxford University Press, he continues to lecture courses in business, including International Marketing at Pace University and Management of New & Emerging Technology at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
An active entrepreneur, and member of ESSEC Business Angels, in 2008 he founded and provided the seed-capital for The Triana Group. He has lived extensively on three continents.

David Alexandre Baranes

Prior to joining AppNexus, David was a co-founder and partner at The Triana Group. At Triana, he worked with portfolio companies, one of which bringing 100-time multiple, and was instrumental in several successful engagements with clients. He helped board members and executives of several midmarket technology companies to successfully source and negotiate partnerships and joint-ventures with customers and channel partners overseas, made strategic introductions, and helped companies expand their corporate development reach through VIP meetings with world leaders such as now-IMF Director Christine Lagarde, Doubleclick founder Kevin Ryan, LinkedIn Founder and CEO Kevin Ryan, and many others.
He holds a Masters in Finance from Columbia University, and an Engineering Degree from the French Ecole Polytechnique. He has traveled worldwide.

He is also an investor, business owner and successful entrepreneur. In 2005, he founded the company Pharma Omnium, for which he raised 100 million Euros.
